About Shannon Blake Gans:
Shannon is a self described champion for the creative. The people, the process, the product. Always has been since her early childhood years. Her favorite and most accessible medium is photography. She takes a camera with her where ever she goes. Her love of environments and patterns in nature can be seen in her work. The source of this passion is that she sees “nature as perfectly imperfect.” As well, she has always had the fortune to live at or near the ocean and you see this as a heavy influence in her aesthetic.
Shannon spends most of her time working at New Deal Studios, Inc. A company she co-founded in 1995 with partners Matthew Gratzner and Ian Hunter. NDS is a full service visual effects studio with every tool in the box under one roof. From the digital art department, to the workshop, photography stage and now DI Suites. The NDS philosophy is that no matter how you get there, the final product is the image on the screen. This creates an environment of collaboration among the many artist to mix the mediums and use the best tool to yield a final shot.
Business is Shannon’s true art. Some artists have a tube of paint or a blank screen, she has a bank account with money. Depending on how that money is spent on systems and culture, yields a fabulous studio where creativity can flourish. She started her college education in Florida and after a visit to Los Angeles, she quickly transferred and ended up at USC and the Entrepreneur Program. Shannon spends time each semester teaching at USC in hopes of inspiring the next generation of entrepreneurs.
Born in Boston, Shannon grew up in South Florida in a rural agricultural area south of Miami. She had a busy mind an a lot of time to teach herself how to draw, paint, sew, knit, calligraphy, drafting and photography. She would always play with her mom’s Minolta as her mother was an avid photographer. High school and collage photography classes began the refinement of her vision. She always uses a simple point and shoot camera, nothing too complicated. She just shoots what looks good to her. This show has inspired yet further refinement in her photography
