Richard Winn Taylor II
About Richard Winn Taylor II:
As an artist I’ve been fortunate to have a uniquely varied career; I have a BFA in Painting and an MFA in Printmaking & Photography. I co-founded Rainbow Jam a Light Show/Graphic Design Company that toured with the Grateful Dead. I’ve directed commercials for thirty years and have been the Special Effects Director for several motion pictures including Tron, the film that introduced the world to computer imaging. As a result, I’ve seen an extraordinary evolution in the technologies that support the arts.
I’ve been involved with computer imaging from it’s earliest days and I knew from the beginning that it would evolve to become the most powerful visual tool ever created by man. It’s now clear that the potential of computer-generated images is infinite. But in the end a computer is no different than a Leica Camera or a Steinway Piano in that it’s how the artist plays it and brings life to it that makes all the difference in the world.
In many of my prints I’ve tried to create the impossible, the paradox and the magical. That to me is what art should be. Creating images that remind one of something they’ve never seen before, images that seem familiar but are in fact entirely new.
